Every now and then, we get questions about where our clothes are made. We always do our best to be 100% transparent about this, but recently noticed it isn't as clear as we may have thought on the website. So, here's all about where Mochipan makes our items and where we ship them from!
We manufacture all of our products in China, and we also ship everything from a warehouse in China. (We hope to some day expand to a USA warehouse - but that will take a while!)
A lot of people associate China with fast fashion, scams, or unethical practices. And honestly, we think those concerns come from a good place — people want to support things that are made fairly and with care. So instead of avoiding the topic, we thought we’d talk about it directly.
We Have Our Own Factory (Really!)
Unlike a lot of other brands, we don’t just hire random factories and hope for the best. We actually own our own small factory in China, and it’s where we make over 80% (soon to be 100%) of our pieces completely in-house now.
That means we’re hands-on with every step — from sampling to sewing to packaging. We control the quality, the materials, the timeline, and most importantly: the working conditions. We know exactly who’s making our clothes, and they’re not strangers — they’re our team. People we trust, people we’ve worked with for years, and people we care deeply about.
Everyone’s Treated Right
Our production is small and intentional, and we’ve worked hard to build something ethical from the ground up. That means everyone we work with is paid fairly, has safe working conditions, and is treated like a human being — not a cog in a machine.
We don’t do shady supply chains or faceless outsourcing. We know the names of the people making your clothes. We check in on them. We listen to their needs. It’s not just business — it’s a relationship, and we’re proud of that.
We Also Support a Family-Run Warehouse
After your clothes are made, they’re shipped from a nearby family-owned warehouse — another small business we’re lucky to work with. They go so much more above and beyond than your typical corporate high-volume warehouse. They handle each order with so much care, and we love knowing that this partnership supports a hardworking local family. It’s another way we can make sure your order is packed thoughtfully and shipped efficiently — without relying on big fulfillment centers or rushed logistics.
So... Why China?
China sometimes gets unfairly lumped in with the worst parts of the fashion industry — and yes, there is a lot of fast fashion that comes out of there. But that’s not the whole story.
The truth is, China is also home to some of the most skilled and experienced garment workers in the world. Our factory is in a region known for its long history of textile craftsmanship, and the people we work with are seriously talented. They take so much pride in their work, and it shows in every seam, stitch, and detail.
And just to be clear — we’re nowhere near the fast-fashion districts you’ve seen in documentaries or exposés. We’re far from Shein alley or any of those high-volume, low-wage setups. What we do is small-batch, slow, and intentional.
We didn’t choose China to cut corners — we chose it to build something sustainable, ethical, and long-lasting with people we trust. And while production there is still expensive (especially when you're paying fair wages and doing things right), it's not quite as high as local U.S. manufacturing — which means we can keep our prices more accessible for you without compromising on our values or quality.
We totally understand the hesitation that can come with seeing China on your tracking. But behind that label is a small, dedicated team — not a faceless sweatshop.
